    A directional coupler is a 4-port passive device that is used to sample a portion of an input signal for test and/or monitoring purposes. This small amount of signal is measured at the coupled port and allows to obtain incident power, reflected power, VSWR values… It can be useful to evaluate the level of transmitted power in a component or part of RF chain, control signal received in an antenna etc. Uses and applications can determine one of the most important specification of directional coupler : the coupling factor.
